Picked up Rogue Sun today after someone recced it to me several months ago. Two things that jumped out at me about it-

That almost all powers appear to be sourced from an explicitly magical paradigm despite the books clear adherence, by name, to a traditional superheroic paradigm

That the book really wants to trick you into calling it a superhero deconstruction but it's not. It's really not. It's just a well-written superhero story where the superhero the protagonist is replacing was a deadbeat father with dubious interpersonal ethics. We can't let deconstruction just start to mean "good instead of bad"

been a while so! comic rec time!

Yesterday: New Orleans' greatest hero, ROGUE SUN, was murdered. Today: rebellious teenager DYLAN SIEGEL discovers that Rogue Sun was his estranged father, Marcus — and that he's inherited his father's mantle. Tasked with protecting our world from the forces of the supernatural — and solving his father's murder — Dylan will be forced to come to terms with the man he's spent the majority of his life hating.

this comic has quickly made it to my favs, each character has their own motives and nuance, there's genuinely great storytelling and worldbuilding, and even if you don't end up liking the story, the art alone is so breathtaking that it's worth it.

[Note: You don't have to read Radiant Black or Inferno Girl Red to read this, but I highly recommend reading both anyways :D]
